Synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.

Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone-one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship-tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.

Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

My thoughts:

I picked this book up at Borders a week ago. The first thing I was obsessed with? The cover, of course. It looks just like a sky full of stars at first glance and then when you look ever closer, you see the faces of a boy and a girl. And I was taken by it's beauty. Totally, completely taken. I didn't have to even think twice about getting it. Then, i read the first chapter and I almost cried because I felt like I already knew Amy as a character. After reading the first chapter, I HAD to buy it. This story is a very unique dystopian novel that's set centuries into the future on the space ship, Godspeed. It is a world that is unfathomable to us as a free country, and technologically foreign. Their goverment is essentially a dictator ship, run by one leader, Eldest, who will be followed by Elder.

When Amy is woken from her frozen slumber, she's thrown into this world where nothing is the way it used to be. Where she is surrounded by lies and brainwashed people. She dedicates her life on the ship to making sure that the other frozen people are kept safe, mainly her parents, because there is an "unplugger" on the loose. With the help of Elder, she tries to decipher what is happening. But as future leader, this puts Elder in a bad position.

I really liked this book. The story was mostly my favorite part of it because it was very different and original, and i really love dystopian novels. The pace was fast but sometimes slow, but not slow enough to make me lose interest. I felt like the characters could have probably been a little bit better, with the exception of Harley -- an eccentric artist who just wants to get off of Godspeed. He was a fantastic character and i personally think he was better for Amy than Elder, but that dream, you'll see, will never happen. I also kind of wish that the romance was heightened. There wasn't as much romance as I hoped there would be and I think that's because Amy simply isn't ready for that at any point in the book. I mean, if she woke up in a whole new world, she's probably a lot more into figuring out her life than kissing and talking about love. So i understood, but wished that there was more love. -shrug- Overall, I liked this book and I will most likely read the next one.
